| SIKKIM
– DARJEELING - KALIMPONG |
|
![]() |

The natural beauty of Sikkim is
without compare and most people agree that it is heaven
on earth. Bordered by Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan the
cultural bounty offered by Sikkim is second to none,
where the native Lepchas
peacefully co-exist with Tibetan Bonpos, Bhutanese
businessmen and Nepali farmers. The most charming
aspect of this region is the privacy it has to offer
because tourists are only allowed to enter for a limited
period of time.
From Kathmandu you will fly to Bhadrapur and undertake
a short drive to Darjeeling, ‘The Queen
of Hills’, through abundant tea estates.
Resting under the watchful gaze of the Kanchenjunga
range this is the perfect start to a perfect holiday.
You will have two days to relax and take in the sights
of Darjeeling including Tiger Hill
(for breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga range),
Zoological Park and the Ghoom Monastery.
Carved out of the hillside, Gangtok the capital of
Sikkim, is the next destination with friendly helpful
people and clean streets.

After
a good nights rest you can set out to explore Gangtok,
Places to look out for are the renowned Institute of
Tibetology, the Purba Chorten (Stupa), Enchey Gompa,
an orchid sanctuary and several viewpoints to marvel
once again at the Kanchenjunga range. A drive to Martham
via The Rumtek monastery offers an
insight into the life of rural Sikkim and the amazing
terraced cultivation of rice on steep ridges. The town
of Kalimpong is the next one of note, after having spent
one night in Pemayangste, famed for its intricately
decorated monasteries. The tour of Sikkim ends with
a drive to Bhadrapur and a flight back to Kathmandu.
